[14.8] Draven Guide by misterfirstblood

By misterfirstblood
Introduction
Welcome to the League of Draven ... oh I mean

Hello guys, I'm MisterFirstBlood from EUW and today I'm gonna show you how to play Draven.

Playing Draven is still the biggest Lane Bully in the entire game and offers the most rewarding and the most punishing gameplay experience at the same time.

Be aware that it can take a while for you to master his mechanics and your champion choice is probably a decider, if the game is over soon for your, or your opponents team.
Pro's and con's
+ Strong ADC in early game.
+ Can generate a lot of extra gold.
+ Snowballing the game is easy when you get Lead.
+ Amazing damage output.
+ You will improve by playing draven. Not to die, catch all axes, move between your attacks.
Everything you need to get better in League.
+ Tyler will be proud when you do well.

- No Mobility except movement speed from W.
- You will be Focused very hard when playing Draven.
- You should not die or you will lose 75% of your Stacks.
- When Draven is behind he's in a very bad situation. There is no room for mistakes.
- Hard to master.
- Tyler will be sad when you lose.
Spells
Passive: League of Draven
Draven gains his fans' Adoration when he catches a Spinning Axe or kills a minion, monster, or tower. Killing enemy champions grants Draven bonus gold based on how much Adoration he has.

Q: Spinning Axe

Draven's next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.

W: Blood Rush
Draven gains increased Move Speed and Attack Speed. The Move Speed bonus decreases rapidly over its duration. Catching a Spinning Axe will refresh the cooldown of Blood Rush.

E: Stand Aside
Draven throws his axes, dealing physical damage to targets hit and knocking them aside. Targets hit are slowed.

R: Whirling Death

Draven hurls two massive axes to deal physical damage to each unit struck. Whirling Death slowly reverses direction and returns to Draven after striking an enemy champion. Draven may also activate this ability while the axes are in flight to cause it to return early. Deals less damage for each unit hit and resets when the axes reverse direction. Executes enemies who have less health than Draven's number of Adoration stacks.
Items
Lethality is the way to go. You need tons of raw attack damage to oneshot your opponents in no time abusing Hail of Blades.
I am not sure if running Eclipse as your mythical item is still the best choice of all given items. Since Infinity Edge which definetely should be your second item after Patch 13.1b, you probably want Crit Rate in that first slot, so Kraken Slayer, Immortal Shieldbow and Galeforce would be the only real options. The next best item to optimize your raw damage output would be Essence Reaver. With either of your Mythical Item Choices and IE + Essence Reaver you have tons of AD and "enough" crit rate to deal lethal damage. Depending on your mythical Item Choice Bloodthirster is a super good choice in general, while Lord Dominik's Regards allows you to shred tanks too. The Collector got replaced by Infinity Edge a bit in my opinion. Though i do not like attack speed stacking and it offers crit aswell as raw Attack damage, its a little worse compared to the other available choices.

In some cases you might need different options for utility like Guardian Angel Maw of Malmortius or Mercurial Scimitar.
Runes
Hail of Blades is the most explosive rune on Draven currently. The massive attack damage + Q Damage buff combined with 3 super fast attacks will make your opponents explode in no time. Treasure Hunter is basically your passive times 2 and combined with Taste of Blood and Legend: Bloodline in your second tree you wont have sustain issues.
Presence of Mind is just generally good to have and Eyeball Collection rounds it up pretty well imo.
Tips
- Lasthitting is very easy with Draven. Try to kill every single minion from wave with your Q and catch every axe to get the highest value out of your passive.
- Don't catch every axe in Fights. Enemies will see where your axe is gonna land so your movement is easy to predict and they can punish
- Play as aggressive as possible but also as defensive as needed to not give away kills. Your ultimate goal is not to die in lane and get kills at the same time.
- When trading 2v2 always focus at 1 target. You rather want to kill 1 champ then make 2 champs half life.
- Try to execute escaping enemies with your ult.
- When you get ganked try to deny gapclosers with your E, activate W and don't forget your stopwatch. It's possible to win 3v2 situations when your enemies play it bad and can't deal with minion waves.
- Before your Q duration is going to end just activate it again and it's duration is refreshed. You can also refresh it by attacking jungle monsters, towers and wards.
- When chasing an enemy make sure to catch every axe. This allows you to permanently activate W over and over again and makes it way easier to chase them down.
- Theoretically it is possible to handle 3-4 axes at the same time when 1 or 2 are in air while you hold 2 others in your hand. Catching every axe makes it super obvious for your opponent where you want to go, so intentionally not catching an axe or two isnt a big issue if you abuse that mechanic.
Summary
Draven is hard to master but worth the effort. You cant expect to be a Draven god after playing him just a couple of times but you will definitively will improve playing adc when you spend a lot of time playing draven. Move between attacks, not to die but still playing aggressive. You can take all of this knowledge and apply it to every other ADC.
Thank You!
Thanks for paying attention to my guide. My English is not the best so if you find mistakes feel free to correct me.
