This is a Hard CC fight that neither side can really win with that alone. Only reason Aatrox is the winner is because of his E's passive omnivamp. I strongly suggest rushing thornmail after mythic/boots to curb it and give you something of a fighting chance, just try not to fight too much too early and you are good
Akali
Although she can dash out of your Q, just silence first and then after that knock her up and finally, devour her like the pipsqueak she is
Akshan
Comeuppance hurts and this guy can just press one button and grapple away from your Q then another button and execute you with enough bullets. Lucky for you he's not exactly the most capable top laner as he's not seen often. Use that to yuor advantage and take as many Cho chances as you can without fighting Akshan
Aphelios
Mute man not so useful top lane as he's quite squishy and you can feast on him when he's what like half health? literally one of the rarest and easiest matchups Cho'Gath has in the top lane
Azir
Azir was useless from the get-go in the top lane. Someone I knew played it once and got wrecked very simply. He's ranged and all, but your vorpal spikes should be able to reach him. Once he's slowed, Q and W him and then ult him. One full combo should make a meal outta him
Camille
Camille's excessive defenses and downright tankiness and power makes it impossible to kill her. A strict top laner she may be but she ain't played often. use that to your advantage
Cassiopeia
Cassiopeia's pure poison damage resembles that of a annoying flippin Teemo. But her miasma is useless against you because the grounding doesn't affect you at all with like no mobility whatsoever
Darius
Darius's passive is weird. It deals DPS but Cho'Gath is so damn tanky that it really feels more like a tickle or three. But be wary because the more stacks of it he has, the easier it is for his ult to slice you in half.
Dr. Mundo
Stupid Mundo CC Shield and outright tankiness. This makes it annoyingly difficult to strike a fatal blow into the enemies ranks. Luckily, your ult ain't cc so it completely cancels out any chance of him blocking it. and if he ults, keep the damage up and blast em that way
Ezreal
Guy can kite you with barely even a sliver of power. It isn't that hard to do so either with this crazed champion. Just knock up and utilize his squishiness pre 6 and ult whenever you can
Fiora
Fiora is dangerous to a lot of champions but to Cho'Gath, she's seriously hard to defeat. She dashes out of Q, parries W, and can ult n kill you before you execute her. Dodge this matchup as best as possible because trying to fight this jerk off is dangerous to you
Gangplank
Gangplank isn't really that much of a threat to you as a Cho'Gath. You can Q and W him easily and both forms of CC, GP can't cleanse with his citrus. Your E just does a lot of damage and he certainly can't do anything about your R. Overall, you win this one
Garen
Silencing duel. That is what this is. Only difference is that you have more CC. But he has more healing as a Garen. It's pretty dead even but not overly so because his silence does way more dmg
Gnar
Gnar is simple enough to beat when at mini form excpet for his mobility but when he transforms, it increases his AD and outright tankiness, making it difficult to execute The Missing Link with your ult. Be cautious.
Gragas
Gragas is a thick tank and a powerhouse all at once. His AP capabilities is unstoppable and he's tanky enough to resist a crap ton of hits no matter who you play. Not to mention he not only has mobility but has counter-mobility as well. Caution is required when fighting this fatso, because he don't look it, but he's deadly
Graves
Kites you endlessly and does too much damage. Too dangerous if you ask me. Luckily for you, he's rarely played top lane. When he is, it's usually a tough matchup for him. Just Q him nonstop and keep him silenced and you will be fine
Gwen
Gwen's mist can be a nuisance to deal with because of it's protective properties. All you need to do is get inside it and Q her. Then you simply eat her alive. Quick and easy
Heimerdinger
Heimerdinger is a nuisance to deal with. Not just because he's got way to much cc, but because his turrets will just chip away at your health bar endlessly and they don't have a time limit of activity like Shaco's boxes. Avoid this matchup if you see it. Just play someone else
Illaoi
Ah Illaoi, such a pain. She simply E's and ult's you and whoever else is in the lien of fire as well. That ult of hers not only heals her but allows her to summon more tentacles to pulverize you with. No fun at all to fight and since she's a common top laner, it's worth noting that Cho'Gath is not someone to play against Illaoi
Irelia
Mobile, strong, and builds lifesteal. Absolutely the last thing you want to fight. But if you build Thornmail to counter the BORK and Shieldbow she tends to build, it should be a little easier to beat her senseless
Jax
Honestly, Jax dodges your empowered autos (E) but he can't block your Q when using his own E. That's your chance to escape his annoying amounts of range to prevent him from leap striking onto you and you will succeed
Jayce
Jayce builds lethal amounts of damage and there's no way to change that, but snipe him with Q and prevent him from using abilities with W and then turn him into a snack with your ult. Easy money right there
K'Sante
Best to be careful with dumb K'Sante. He will mitigate literally all of your damage if he gets any unnecessary kills. Although I don't know what his Q, W, or E is, I do know his ultimate is quite deadly, sacrificing a large sum of his health to vastly increase his defenses and make his Ntofos way stronger. Caution is required
Karma
Karma can be played top lane. Not well but she can be played up there. Literally all you have to do is, Q her and stay out of range of her root and you will easily reign supreme
Kayle
I actually made a video about this. I don't know how, but Kayle isn't a threat into Cho'Gath. The one I fought was unable to ult at the correct time and got completely plastered. Obviously not all Kayle's are that stupid but going off of what I experienced, they aren't a good matchup into Cho'Gath
Kennen
Massive amounts of stuns and crazy mobility. This dude is so annoying to try and beat up because he never stops his nonsense. He's not common as a top laner but he's still dangerous. Be careful with this one
Kha'Zix
Void Brethren fighting? That's a little weird. But the winner by default is Cho'Gath because he conveniently knocks up Kha'Zix endlessly and he's squishy so eating him alive is of no concern to you
Kled
God this champ is super rude. 2 health bars and endless damage. Not to mention Grievous wounds and demolishing ult of his. Just don't fight him till 6. Then you take out Skaarl's health bar and damage him a little more and then poof, down he goes with your own ult
Lillia
Lillia's her name. Speed is her game. Careful with her Q as it can deal true damage at the outer edge and her Ult W combo is hilariously dangerous. She also gains passive DPS and couple that with the usual Liandry's and Demonic and she literally deletes half your health after one spell over the course of 5 seconds. She's not impossible to kill though. Just slow her down and Q her then she's always squishy so eat her
Malphite
Never did find Malphite a huge problem for me... ever. Literally take down his shield and keep whacking him with autos and he never gets it back. And then, he usually stacks armor so might I advise exploiting that and building Demonic Everfrost tank on the guy. You'll literally delete his health bar
Mordekaiser
I main this guy, but I almost wish he never existed. His ult is the most dangerous CC in the game in my eyes, literally making his Q eternally stronger as long as you remain in there. And if he has ability haste, then say goodbye. There is a flaw in his programming you can exploit. It will take some pro maneuvers though, if you can keep him slowed and build enough MR, you can mitigate his damage potential long enough to deal enough damage and then eat him
Nasus
Although his slow isn'\t really a problem for you, as a Cho'Gath, because you aren't fast in general, you have counter mobility as well. And your counter mobility, when played well, can last longer. If he ults, just keep him knocked up and if you can, bait it out. Makes it more fun for you to chow down
Neeko
Even I never understood this champ in the top lane. but it's a thing on attack speed runes. For some reason this girl can play like an azir but with way more CC. Makes her very annoying to deal with. She can also deal tons of damage in the process. Keep her knocked up and away from you and she can't capitalize on your inability to move in her root, or ult
Olaf
Olaf's new rework makes him so dangerous in the top lane. It made him less of a jungler and more of a top laner and frankly, it annoys me. Steer clear of being within his Q range and use your own Q effectively and efficiently. If you can stay away, he can't use his ult to the fullest. Then, nom nom nom
Ornn
If you can keep out of his W range, which isn't very large, you'll beat him to the dirt easy. He gets extremely tanky very quickly so try not to give him a thanksgiving dinner in the process of laning phase.
Pantheon
Pantheon is susceptible to damage but wait till his E is down before assaulting him with your abilities. That will make things all the easier. His Q is a major execute, goes fast, and has incredulous range. If you get lower than about 20% health, just back off. No point in sacrificing your life to this guy and making him way too strong
Poppy
You have no mobility so her W is stupidly useless for all scenarios against you. And you have range so unless she comes too close, you literally chomp her soul in the process of devouring her flesh.
Quinn
Snipes you with strength and speed, you have counter-mobility but she will just catch up anyways and beat you to a bloody pulp. I advise you to not fight here. She's not common anymore, but she really should be. Super dangerous
Rell
Prone to CC and susceptible to your endless damage and counter-mobility. I don't recommend banning this one because I've only seen her fight in the top lane once and it was fighting Jayce, but do be wary for the unexpected
Renekton
This one has mobility, strength, and CC. The ultimate of his is a Nasus ult but deadlier because he has zero resources. He just spams his abilities endlessly and annoys you to death. There is a way to kill if you can bait his E, and then knock him up
Rengar
He's squishy but just as deadly. No way to stop him from jumping out of bushes endlessly to delete your health bar. Not to mention he can deal crap tons of damage and it's straight up stupid.
Riven
The girl has CC and tons of mobility. 3 Q casts and a dash shield. No way to stop her from dealing damage either because she can straight up come close, strike you a few times, and then slice you with wind. It's quite annoying to say the least
Ryze
Unless he roots you without end, this guy deals not enough damage if he spends his mana recklessly. So might I suggest you knock him up, slow him endlessly, and then eat him for lunch
Sejuani
Occasionally she'll be able to dash out of your Q, but your Q comes up too fast for her to do that every time. After that, she's tanky and slow so utilize that and you will be scarfing bristlejacks by 7
Sett
If he E's you, just Q him and E him a couple times and he's slowed so much that he won't catch up. And if he does, silence him and then he can do nothing to you. Should be easy pickings but watch out for one-tricks
Shaco
Bait his Q, find him, then bully him. He's squishy as hell, but be wary of his clone. It takes more damage than the real one does. Use that to map your plan of attack. But be careful because if he gets you, no telling what damage he'll do
Shen
Shen can block a lot of hits, tank a lot of attacks and can do a lot of damage. I would know, because I hate him. Unless I am playing Mordekaiser, I can never beat the guy. And playing Cho'Gath, it's extremely difficult. Unless you knock him up for the duration of his impenetrable shield, he's a waste of time to strike during then
Singed
Poisonous personality and gases. Adhesives and a flingy shield. Capable of dealing loads of damage and coupled up with burning items like Demonic and Liandry's, he's menace incarnate.
Sion
Knock up king with stuns and slows galore. He also passively gains health like an unending resevoir and then actively shields himself with the same damn ability. He's easy to fear and harder to beat so be careful
Skarner
Literally a mutant cockroach. Easy to stomp on. Not even sure why he's here on my list but he is so Imma just work with it
Swain
Swain heals with his ult... so long as you remain inside of it. If you stay outside, avoid his root/pull in, and knock him up: he basically wastes his mana. Outside of that he's hella strong so do us all a favor and be extra careful.
Sylas
Sylas ain't much of a top laner anymore but let's go off of this scenario just for the sake of it. He could steal your ultimate. He could deal damage. But can he deal enough? Matter of fact, you have a silence that he does not. Meaning you can stop him from executing you with your ultimate and get the chance to do it yourself
Tahm Kench
Tahm Kench is one of the only champions with a suppression ability. His ult is a deadly combination of damage and impaired movement that stuffs you into his jaws, whilst slowing him down. You gotta have 3 passive marks on you though. So try to avoid close quarters combat when behind when he reaches lvl 6
Taliyah
Squishy mage that can deal a butttload of damage. And try to be careful when dealing with her stone field. They hurt when she knocks you around... a lot. Simply knock her up, and honestly let her knock you around. She will be susceptible to the same attack from your Q and then you can have some rock soup
Teemo
The guy can blind but not forever and you don't have enough damage in your emnpowered autos to be stressing about it. My tip: when he Q's you, knock him up. then silence him (it won't stop his poison but it can prevent him from being Speedy Gonzalez 2.0) and then he becomes your next meal. don't be confused because it's not an empowered auto so just ult whenever ready and you murder him
Trundle
Trundle slows you and hastes himself. While at the same time, amplifying his own strength with Q. Luckily, you aren't an AD champion so he can't really borrow much AD from you. Use that to your advantage
Tryndamere
His ult counters your's VERY hard because of it's nature. It's meant to be a death preventative. So your execute won't work. He'll just use it a bit early and stop you in your track. UNLESS you time your silence incredibly well, that won't work legit at all
Urgot
He'll suppress you when you get low enough and prevent you from killing him, even if he is the one on the brink of collapse. Other problemo here. He gets it back really fast so there ain't much way to stop that. And his ult is a comet speed projectile so just be wary and avoid direct close range combat
Vayne
Vayne outranges you, is mobile and has counter-mobility with her E. Although her mobility ain't huge, it's a good enough distance to also set up the empowered auto she gets with her Q movement. Don't bother trying into a vayne. Whatever you do it will not work at all
Vladimir
Vladimir ain't a huge issue, except for his incessant healing. Just smack him up into the air and you win easily. You also have healing because of your carnivore passive
Volibear
The Volibear can stun, heal, slow, even deactivate towers. About the only thing he can't do is beat you in a 1v1 at level 3. So do yourselves a favor and just beat on him from range when he marks you
Warwick
Constant healer and damage dealer. The healing scales on his damage and health missing. Although not a common top laner and more often a jungler, this guy is lethal in the right hands. Proceed with caution
Wukong
Shreds Armor, creates a close for a few seconds and annoys me about as much as Shaco does. This one ain't as deadly though. He's mobile but not nearly as much as Shaco so he should be easy enough to beat up and eat
Xayah
Squishy, immobile and stupid easy to kill. Just be slightly careful. Don't wanna get pricked by those dumb feathers of hers
Yasuo
No way to use wind wall effectively. All you gotta do is annoy the hell outta him and you eat him at like half health. Just keep him cc'd so he don't heal nearly as much and you're golden
Yone
Wow this guy is dumb. But he really has no defenses against all your damage. In that sense, he's easy pickings. Just be careful because he'll heal like a vampire will
Yorick
Annoying damage and mini army galore. OMG this guy is annoying dangerous. Just avoid him, auto his walkers and knock him up endlessly. He has little to no sustain, so ulting him for a meaty dinner should be easy enough. You just gotta get rid of his undead army
Ashe
Ashe's stun and slow do in fact help with setting up a powerful Q, but she's not very strong until late game and that's when you fall off as a Cho'Gath. Stay frosty (literally) when playing by The Frost Archer's side
Blitzcrank
Blitzcrank's massive amount of CC which usually helps, can screw over your chances at getting any sort of kill, his rocket grab is dangerous for any opponent but it grapples them away from Q if not careful. and his power is absolute with the damage which means landing a good ultimate is hard enough as it is
Kha'Zix
Kha'Zix builds lethality. Good. Kha'zix is a buggy kill stealer. Bad. His Q and everything else for that matter deals serious amounts of damage, so much so, that it overly steals your kills. Void brethren they may be, but don't play this combo unless you wish to be useless as Cho'Gath the entire game
Miss Fortune
Miss Sarah Fortune, the pirate charmer and a deadly ship pilot, a terrifying ADC and not a good or bad synergy with Cho'Gath. Her damage is destructive. That much I'll give you. But there's just one catch, she can use her ult to whittle down health bars like a block of wood meeting the woodchipper. If you aren't speedy, you won't be able to ult in time
Nocturne
The Paranoia ultimate makes it easy for Nocturne to be close and deal some damage while you keep enemies silenced and airborne for ages. I'd make this an ideal synergy but he's got so much damage that nocturne may end up stealing the kill in the chaos
Renata Glasc
Renata's root and ult make it easy to cc the enemy champions for an eternity and a half, what makes it worse for them, is the berserk part of Renata's ultimate. I mean, using the enemy champions to hurt each other? PRICELESS!!!
Rengar
You would think Cho'Gath would be the next beast on Rengar's hunting list, but honestly speaking, these two work extremely well together, any form of paralyzing cc can couple together with Cho's Q making it easy to deal a metric ton of damage, setting up for a nice and easy Cho ult
Senna
Senna can heal and root, setting up for a good Q and W. But she simply builds lethality and deals way too much damage to be considered normal human damage. Making her way too strong to be a good synergy and far too strong to be a good support for you
Soraka
The healing on this chick is insane, and the fact that it is percentage health that heals most of the time makes her a beast as a tank builder. Use this wisely as it may screw you over if she ults at a time that doesn't work for you. Be cautious
Tristana
Tristana's damage is lethal and skill with the cannon is flawless. However, her ult will screw over your chances at killing the enemy, not because it's another execute but because it's a knock back. It does magic damage and then proceeds to knock them back a few hundred units, scaling each time it levels up. Proceed with caution with this champ nearby
Vayne
Vayne's condemn, when it lands an enemy into a wall, it makes it all the easier to set up a Q. What's more? She can deal damage enough to deal a swift death to all enemies with a cho'gath Q
Vladimir
Vladimir is a health steal menace and can literally use the immortal shieldbow lifesteal without the item itself. but if I am saying anything, ya don't need the extra cc to take down enemies. Vladimir can tank a lot of damage while regenerating himself in the process, letting you, the actual tank, deal damage and silence from behind. Then you can get close and eat them alive.
Wukong
I heard Wukong Jungle was a thing nowadays but it's not helpful to Cho'Gath in the least. He deals far too much damage and steals kills with the empowered autos and trickery
Yone
Yone's enhanced crit damage makes him far too strong to be a good helper to Cho'Gath and a terrible assistant to get Cho'Gath kills. He'll just steal them instead
Yuumi
Yuumi attaches and heals, that's good. what's not good is this simple fact. She's about as useless otherwise as veggies are to the carnivore that is Cho'Gath
Synergies

Couple my autism and the analytical mind I've had since birth, I am able to successfully formulate and carry out different strategies with every idea that comes to mind. They call me DevilDawg most of the time. I am actually one of the youngest hopeful streamers I know at 17 and a half. I go to high school currently with hopes of becoming a pro streamer of LoL in college. It won't come easy but your support would mean wonders. I also stream on Twitch @devildawg1234
Builds and their Contents
I used to build off-meta (and still do sometimes), but everyone was telling me that it would never help me climb the ranks. One way or another I heard them and I started becoming an even better player. Now I have a new objective, achieving m7 on all champions old and new. Every guide I make is for a champ I have achieved at least mastery 5 on so more will come out sooner than later
Runes
Grasp of the Undying is absolutely necessary on Cho. You also need Demolish as a subsidary rune because it's damage to turrets increases with health. And the kind of health reservoir Cho'Gath is, he's absolutely needing it. You also want Precision runes secondary for that added legend rune
Items
Iceborn with a hint of AP in the form of Demonic Embrace is what's recommended for this crazy guy. He's tanky but he has potential for AP chaos. I've got a Rod of Ages build madew specifically for mana, health and AP scaling. It's insane the craziness it does. But if not confident, just go with tank
Abilities
There is a catch with this guy's abilities that can determine what you start first. You could max E first and focus on close quarters, or max Q and prioritize ranged combat. Either one works, but it depends on the matchup
